Classic Formula 3 Historic Motorsport Team
April 2009
On Sunday 5th April we took part in the opening Classic F3 championship race of the season at Donington Park in Leicestershire. A good qualifying performance was wasted however when the clutch played up before the start, forcing us to start a lap behind everyone else. Despite a consistent drive, we were only able to gain one spot before the end of the race.
1st June 2009
Yesterday we raced in the Classic F3 round at Snetterton, Norfolk. Qualifying 11th on the grid was a little disappointing, and we had made little progress during the race, when a spin at the Russell chicane took the left rear tyre off the rim and the resulting damage took us out of the race.
Next race will be on the famous Brands Hatch GP circuit on July 5th.
1st July 2009
Since the last race at Snetterton we found some problems with the rear brakes, which likely contributed to the spin that took us out of the race there. With that fixed, we hope for a better run at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
7th July 2009
At Brands Hatch on Sunday, we opted to go for a solid, safe performance, without pushing too hard, and were therefore delighted to qualify in 10th place of the 31 cars taking part. The combination of good weather, and the appearance of the FIA historic F1 championship at this event, contributed to a sizeable crowd, who saw us move up a place to 9th by the first corner, only to lose a place again near the end of the first lap. We stayed in this position, which became 9th after the demise of another runner after a few laps, until the car started losing water and mis-firing after about 8 laps. As we’d built a good gap to the following cars, it wasn’t until the penultimate lap that we got caught and passed, eventually finishing in 12th place.
1st October 2009
We brought the season to a close with a disappointing day at Thruxton. Despite a lot of work having been done since the previous race to ready the car, there were several failures, with a faulty spark plug and then starter motor failure, restricting us to 4 laps of practice, after which a water leak from the engine head put paid to any chance of a recovery in the race.

Visitors may have noticed the site was very quiet last year! After a season in which
we only raced three times, the March 803B was sold earlier this year. We expect it
to be racing in the UK’s Classic F3 series and would like to wish the new owners
the best of luck.
Meanwhile, look out for Woodside Motorsport’s exciting new project later this year.
