Classic Formula 3 Historic Motorsport Team
Saturday 30th June 2007
Today, Woodside Motorsport raced in the Autoglym Historic Superprix at Brands Hatch. After a poor start to the season, everything went right today, and of the 32 cars entered, we qualified in 14th place, and finished the race in 7th.

This is turning into a great month! Round 5 of the HSCC Classic F3 Championship was held at Castle Combe in Wiltshire today. As has already been the case several times this season the weather was changeable, making tyre choice difficult. For practice we chose wets, only to find the track drying fast, causing the tyres to go off after just a few laps. We qualified in 13th position. It had been several hours since the last shower when we lined up for the race, an hour late due to delays in the programme, but as we waited in the assembly area, a light shower arrived, and though it was not enough to wet the track, a wet race was declared by the organisers. Expecting the shower to pass quickly, no-one changed tyres, and the whole field completed the warm-up lap on slicks. Just one car came in to change to wets at this point - few teams having sufficient personnel for a quick tyre change.
As the lights went off, we got a great start, and were in 6th place challenging for 5th at the first corner. That challenge back-fired, as it ruined the exit for the corner and two cars passed before the following chicane, and another car passed exiting the chicane, however, thanks to some cars spinning in the deteriorating weather conditions, the first lap was completed in 7th place. A further two places were gained on lap three, and we stayed in 5th, until the last lap, when the wet tyre shod car of Richard Trott came past. Sixth place at the end of another tricky race, represents the best finish so far this season.

Yesterday we competed in our final event of the 2007 season, as other engagements mean we’d decided to skip the final round at Silverstone. Further clutch problems meant we had to start from the pitlane instead of 9th on the grid, and plenty of overtaking followed as we moved up to 15th place after half of the race. Than, as we tried to overtake at the hairpin, another car dived up the inside, and made contact, spinning us out of the race. A real shame as the car had been running well, and on lap times alone could have been in 7th position. We have a plan in place to fix the clutch trouble this winter, which should allow us to consistently finish next season. I hope!

Bank Holiday Monday saw Woodside Motorsport compete in the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park, Cheshire. This is the biggest historic meeting in the north-west of England, and, as usual, attracted a large crowd. Qualifying was disappointing with our poorest grid placing all year - 24th. Things got worse at the start of the race. Due to a large entry for this race, we were listed as a reserve, which lead to some confusion before the race start, and ultimately to a DNF.

Today we learnt that the 2008 Classic F3 championship will be sponsored by BP Ultimate fuels.
Tuesday 1st July 2008
On Sunday we raced at the Autoglym Historic Festival at Brands Hatch. This is the premier historic race meeting in the south of England and with FIA historic F1s and CanAm cars on the bill, its no wonder that it was well attended. Of the 37 cars entered for the Classic F3 race in the afternoon, we qualified in 11th place, and enjoyed some fine battles during the 20 minute race, before settling for 10th place at the chequered flag. Next race will be at Castle Combe on August 3rd.

Today we raced on the international circuit at Silverstone, however some gremlins remained in the car from the winter. During the day we had problems with the brakes, clutch, and finally a wheel bearing that caused retirement with about two thirds of the race complete. So, there is plenty of work to do back in the garage to get the car fixed for the next event.
